There are many potential applications of geosynthetic materials in this area. Geosynthetics are widely used in the oil, gas sectors such as: Construction of water tanks with geomembrane insulators and the construction of evaporation ponds in order to preserve the environment. Also, the insulating of fuel storage tanks, which are protected by the use of a variety of geomembranes and geo-drain.
Their principle use is as a secondary liner in the containment of hazardous fuels - as tank bases and tank bunds - being the final barrier were steel or concrete tanking to fail.
Other applications include overflow lagoons, catchment lagoons, storage bunds and fire-fighting lagoons.
